Bridging Cultures and Careers: English and Cultural Summer Camp Empowers Students with Workplace Communication Skills

SUNDAY I 8 SEPTEMBER 2024 - The English and Cultural Summer Camp, co-organized by the International Office and the Faculty of Language Studies and Human Development at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK), welcomed 50 undergraduate students from Prince of Songkhla University, Pattani, for a series of engaging workshops focused on enhancing English communication skills in the workplace.

The day's activities began with opening remarks from Assoc. Prof Dr. Saufi Che Rusuli, Director of UMK International, followed by a series of interactive workshops led by the Faculty of Language Studies and Human Development. The instructors involved are Pn Linira Ghazali, Dr Liyana Ahmad Afip, Mr Nik Aliff Hakimi Nik Ahmad Fadzil, Pn Alia Nadhirah Ahmad Kamal, and Mr Affiq Kamarul Azlan.

Workshop 1: Introduction and Workplace Communication

Participants were grouped to rotate introductions, fostering connections while practicing essential conversational skills. This session included a lecture on English grammar tailored for workplace communication, providing students with valuable insights into effective language use in professional settings.

Workshop 2: Elevator Pitch Strategy for Professional Self-Introduction

In the second workshop, students honed their skills in delivering a concise and impactful self-introduction using the Elevator Pitch Strategy. This exercise challenged participants to present themselves professionally in under 10 seconds, focusing on clarity and confidence.

Workshop 3: Presenting Your Organization

The final workshop emphasized effective organizational communication. Students practiced introducing their organizations concisely, applying the principles of the Elevator Pitch Strategy. This group presentation session highlighted the importance of clear, effective messaging in representing their workplaces.

The workshops provided a dynamic and practical learning environment, encouraging students to apply their new skills in real-world scenarios. The day concluded with an enjoyable visit to AEON Mall, offering a perfect balance of learning and leisure.
