ASSOC. PROF. DR. KAMARULZAMAN BIN ABDUL GHANI

In the Name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

Peace be upon you and pleased to meet you.

The Faculty of Language Studies and Human Development (FBI) - previously known as the Centre for Language Studies and Generic Development (PBI) - is the ninth faculty established in UMK after a successful restructuring plan approved by the Ministry of Higher Education in November 2020. UMK Top Management has approved FBI's operation as a faculty on 10 January 2021.

The Faculty of Language Studies and Human Development (FBI) is one of the earliest academic entities established during the commencement of UMK. FBI is designed to equip students in terms of language skills and soft skills in line with the vision and mission of the university which emphasizes the development of high-quality human capital.  FBI is responsible for providing services that focus on the mastery of language and human capital development which will be of great value to every UMK student.

Currently FBI has 100 staff comprising of 94 academic staff and 6 administrative staff.

FBI comprises of three departments namely the Department of General Studies, the Department of Language Studies and the Department of Human Development. At the undergraduate level, FBI offers 40 courses categorized as General and Compulsory Courses as well as elective courses. FBI offers these courses at all three campuses; UMK Bachok, UMK City Campus and UMK Jeli Campus.

FBI is also offering two undergraduate programmes namely 1) Bachelor of Business Communication with English (Honours), and 2) Bachelor of Arabic Language with Entrepreneurship (Honours).

At postgraduate level, FBI offers Master of Arts (MA) and Doctoral Degree (PhD) programs in seven (7) areas namely 1) History and Civilization; 2) Religion and Contemporary; 3) Development and Value Education; 4) Philosophy and Social Development; 5) Islamic Studies; 6) Language Studies; and 7) Communication. FBI also offers master program by coursework, which is Master of Business Communication.

I look forward to welcoming the cooperation of various parties - government and private agencies as well as industries and corporate institutions to jointly develop the field of language studies and human development in Malaysia. It is hoped that this website will provide an overview of FBI's current activities and achievements.

I congratulate all members of the FBI Website and Information Coordination Committee who have worked hard to update and maintain this site.

May this effort be blessed by the Almighty God.

Best regards,
